There is an interesting post here summarizing the problems the EU is causing for herbal medicine.
It’s hard to know the best way to deal with this dreadful legislation; but Robert Ralph’s conclusion that we should seek to leave the EU has merit. People in the UK feel pushed around by the EU; and if there was a referendum – promised, but reneged upon – I would guess that we’d be out instantly.
The result of the EU legislation – law in 2011 – chimes perfectly with what pharmaceutical companies would want; so it’s easy to believe they planned this, or at least helped its passage.
Certainly, the membership of the EU committee which first considered the ‘herbal problem’ was made up of75% drug industry representatives.
It seems that we’ve been ‘done up like a kipper’.
