A study by the University of Pittsburgh of 100,000 women between 50 and 79 showed that those with a positive attitude were 9% less likely to develop cancer.
The difference was judged by how much the women agreed with statements such as: “If something can go wrong for me, it will”, as opposed to: “In unclear times I usually expect the best.”
The lead researcher said: “The evidence suggests that sustained, high degrees of negativity are hazardous to health.”
