Circulation is a problem for many people: but there are some simple, and natural, ways to deal with poor circulation for many people.

Circulation is so important for health because the blood takes nutrients to every cell in the body, and removes the waste products which are produced. So by optimizing the circulation we really do maximize our health and our energy levels.

Herbs are just one way to boost our circulation and can be used in addition to a healthy diet and good exercise levels.

The herbs I think are best are:

The Heart and Circulation Programme

Stem cells are being tested to improve the success rate of certain heart attack treatments.

If a blocked artery causes a heart attack, a common treatment is to insert a stent – a hollow tube – into the artery to re-enable the blood flow. The problem is that the insertion of the stent can cause tissue damage. By introducing large numbers of stem cells to the area at the same time it is expected that the healing process will be faster and better.

The difference with this trial is that when the stem cells are needed there is no time to grow the patient’s own stem cells – to avoid rejection by the immune system. Australian company Mesoblast has overcome that problem by growing a specific kind of stem cell found in bone marrow which does not trigger an immune response. In other words, they can be introduced into anyone’s body without fear of rejection.

These stem cells are also not embryonic stem cells which have caused controversy in the past. They are capable of being grown en masse and kept in storage for when they are needed.

The study will involve 225 patients who have suffered severe heart attacks in the UK, Netherlands and Belgium. Initial results are expected after 12 months. There appears to be a very good chance that this use of the specialised stem cells will significantly improve the recovery from the operation as well as the survival rate.

These benefits are particularly related to the reduction of cancer and also of heart disease. As these two are the two main diseases afflicting Western society, this highlights the extreme importance of resveratrol supplements.

The Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences have recently publish a series of papers about these benefits, and the other benefits which with resveratrol has been found to have. These are summarised – in understandable form by RevGenetics.

Resveratrol has such clear benefits for health that I can only wonder how long it going to take before it becomes more widely used by the population at large.

Gosh – that interval training is invigorating! (Is that a synonym for ‘knackering?) I have done some most days for the last week.

It is such a flexible system.

I have done press-ups one day, rowing another day, this 6 minutes programme on two other days. I have two other simple exercises – ‘mountain climbing’ and step-ups – in hand. This is excellent exercise.

The crazy thing is – I imagine I could end up looking like a hunk! That is because interval training builds lean muscle. That has never been my desire… but it might (???) happen.

A 57 year old hunk sounds repulsive…. but then in Denver my H-scan test said my results were those of a 38-year old. So a 38 year-old hunk is maybe ok.

Measuring Improvements

I am benchmarking myself – taking blood pressure, measuring percentage body fat, recovery heart rate after exercise, resting heart rate and lung capacity.

I am also doing the same for others who are accompanying me on this journey for good health. This includes my Dad who is in good health, a little overweight and 84; and a friend who is 70, well overweight and has had heart surgery. Clearly he will be running everything past his doctor.

Then I – and they if they keep up – will be measuring improvements. That will be encouraging.

I am looking forward to tomorrow morning’s exercise.

I recently posted an entry about how I had changed my exercise routine in line with keeping healthy and… well, living to 150.

My visit to see Terry Grossman in Denver changed all that again. He told me about the PACE method of exercise popularized by Al Sears. I’m not sure who got onto it first… but interval training is the more generic name used.

Underlying the method is the fact that: cardio is bad. At least, in the way most of us understand it.

With cardio exercise (or aerobics) you stretch yourself moderately for half an hour or so 3 times a week. This, says Sears (and he has a lot of evidence) tells the muscle cells they need to be ready for this sort of moderate action. In response, the muscles become smaller and more dense. Not good.

The effect is to shrink the size of the lungs and the heart – the last thing we want. We want large muscles in the heart and lungs to make them ready to accommodate any sudden capacity demands. If these can’t be met by the heart, a heart attack is more likely.

So I am getting onto the ‘interval training’ bandwagon. Wish I’d heard about it before.

Check it out here – and get a free 6 minute workout.

I will be posting more about this fantastic method of exercise. Stick with me if you really want to get healthy – and keep healthy.

This technique is not only kinder to animals, but is much cheaper in use and so it means more research can be done.

Pigs are often used in heart research because their heart valves resemble those of humans. The new technique accurately simulates blood flow in the heart by connecting it to equipment on a laboratory bench.

Thus the heart is attached to equipment outside the pig. The results of any experiments carried out can be obtained much, much more quickly and easily.

The new technique will mean that a piece of research might only cost cost $25 instead of around $2500 if it was carried out on a live pig – a massive saving.

Obviously, this means that many more pieces of research will be possible and medical advanced will be multiplied.

Finally, the trauma for the poor animals will be much less.

A girl who had in the UK who had a third of her heart removed as a baby has made a full recovery.

Now 10 years old, a MRI scan can not even detect scar tissue anywhere on the heart.

Kirsty Collier was born with abnormal blood vessels which caused her serious heart problems when she was 4 months old. During a heart bypass operation, during which the heart is stopped, the surgeon was unable to restart her heart. Her parents were told there was little hope.

Having nearly given up hope the surgeon removed a huge piece of heart muscle which he thought was preventing the heart from starting. After sewing up the remaining heart tissue, the heart did, remarkably, start.

Stem Cells Provide Complete Repair

Even more remarkably, thanks to an abundance of stem cells in one so young, the whole heart has since completely repaired itself – restoring the muscle which was removed.

Kirsty is now completely fit and well.

Stem Cell Promise Tremendous Benefits

With the wider use and acceptance of stem cells which will occur over the next 10-20 years, ‘miracle cures’ such as this one will become commonplace for people of all ages.
